2008 Kids Spring Break Track Meet

The day after Boston we held the First Annual GLRR/Lowell High School Kids Spring Break Track Me et.  This was a free event where the kids signed up at the event.  So we were not sure what to expect.  Well – it was overwhelming.  We must have had about 100 kids.  We’ll know more when we tally the results (Pat is working on that as I type).  It was a good thing we had support from the Lowell High Track Team and Coaches.

We had track and field events.  For the field events we had high jump, long jump and shot put.  Kids got instruction from the Lowell High track coaches and then got to give it a try.  On the track side we had 100M and 200M sprints and 100M (short) hurdles.  Kids had a bit of trouble holding to lanes, but thanks to lot of volunteers and lots of stop watches we handled it fine.  We also had 400M, 800M and 1 Mile races.  Kids got 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place ribbons depending on where they placed in their gender and grade.  So most kids got something.

We capped the meet with 4x100M relays.

All in all it was beyond all our expectations.
