Get Green!
The new uniforms are now available on-line
We had to overcome a few technical
difficulties. But we've got it now. We were unable to
implement the discount code - so you folks are on the honor system...
every paid up club member is entitled to a $10 singlet - until April 1st
(originally it was March 15th - but we took too long).
You can also go to
Marx and get your singlet in
person - for $10 until April 1st.
After April 1st - the singlets will be
$25 for existing members. New members will have the option to get
a singlet for $10 (when they join with us).
Also available on-line are shorts (mid
thigh and 1/2 split) in green or (the more racy) yellow. You can
also contact Marx to special order jackets and warm-up pants.
And to answer the MOST frequently
asked question: How to the sizes run? The answer is bit small.
In Memory of Pat Fudge
Faithful followers will recall that last year David Fudge honored the
memory of his mother Pat Fudge with the Purple Stride 5K Run in St Pete,
FL to fight Pancreatic Cancer. You will also recall that Sally and Bobby
Hansford went down to compete.
If you don't recall - Pat was the better half of Ben and Pat Fudge the
long time first family of Merrimack Valley running - until they retired
to sunny Florida.
Sally, Bobby and some other members are headed down for this year's race
on May 22. Now we know most of you can't go - but you can make a
donation to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Here is the event web-site where you can also make donations-

We held elections on Monday Feb 22. Some major
changes at the top. We have a new VP (Jessica), Treasurer (Jason)
and Secretary (Paula & Scott)! We also have new folks in
communications (Moe and Andrew). The folks that used to hold these
positions are still around and will help the new folks get rolling.
This could be a very interesting year for GLRR.

Return to Green
By a vote of 59 to 8 the club has elected to invest in
new GREEN singlets. You can see the front of the new singlet in
the XC Nationals team photo.
The singlets, and matching apparel, will be made
available through Marx Running and Fitness. You will have the
option of buying at the store or on-line (you pay shipping and
handling). Until March 15th paid up members of GLRR will be able
to purchase the new singlet for $10. To take advantage of this
deal you will need to
email
Glenn. When the singlets are available, you will be emailed a

Our Friend Diane
Geehan
It
is with sadness that I pass along the news that our friend Diane Geehan
passed away last night (Sept 20).
As you already know Diane battled her lung cancer for the
last 12 plus months. She brought to the battle her characteristic
toughness and competitiveness. I was going to write that she “lost” her
battle – but that would not be the truth. She didn’t lose – rather she
completed her latest marathon. She was realistic throughout the effort
– but just as she did in her races – she gave her maximum effort. In
that she brought honor and dignity to this, the last event of her life.
Clearly it is we who lose today. We have lost a dear friend
and we are diminished for it.
Peter Lambert forwarded me this quote from singer John Mayer:
“We are supposed to lose our friends to time, at an age when we’re ready
to agree to the terms of having lived a long life”. I think it captures
a feeling we all share at this time.
There will be a wake on Wednesday (Sept 23) from 7 to 9 and
again on Thursday from 4 to 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home in
Medford. The funeral will be at 11AM on Friday (Sept 25) at St Francis
Church in Medford.
The
Dello Russo Funeral Home is at 306 Main Street, Medford.
St Francis Church is at 441 Fellsway West, Medford. Directions can
be found on the web sites.
Diane asked that in lieu of flowers, you make a donation to
our club youth running programs. In that regard we have setup a new
fund within the club. It is the “Diane Geehan Youth Running Fund”.
If you wish to make a donation, please make your check
payable to “Diane Geehan Youth Running Fund” and send it to:

I would like to pass along this last message from Diane - she
had it included in her funeral missive - and it reminds us once again
what wonderful person Diane was:
"I will always remember the
care, the compassion and the gentle touch that everyone has given me.
As I take this journey I carry your spirit with me. Remember it's
not a job it is your mission to care. You made me a better person
and I love you all!" - Di
