Training on the Boston Marathon Course:

This is a series of four (maybe five this year) training runs, during March, on the Boston Marathon Course.

For all runs we will be meeting at the Drum Hill Dunkin' Donuts at 7:45A.  We will park in the Hannaford parking lot behind Dunkin' Donuts.  There we will organize carpools to head down to Boston.

The first week we run from Wellesley Community Center near the 15 mile mark (of the course) to Boston College (at the top of Heart Break Hill which as at about the 21.5 mile mark) and then back to the start.  The total planned distance is about 12.5 miles, which you can adjust be adding distance part BC, or shorten by tuning around before BC.  There is a course map below.  We provide 2 water stops on this course at about 4 miles and 8.3 miles.

The second week we start from Natick at about the 12 mile mark (of the course) and again run to Boston College and then back again.  The planned distance of this run is 19.5 miles.  Again you can adjust by going past BC or turning around before BC.  There is a course map below.  We provide 4 water stops on this run at about 3.5, 7.5, 12 and 16 miles.  As you might be aware, the start area is pretty empty.  Up the road less than a mile is Wellesley College, but we can't park there - so we park in an empty lot across from 215 E Central St, Natick (click here for a map).   There is a utility substation next to the lot (here is a picture of it).

The third and four weeks we start in Hopkinton from the race starting line and run all or part of the way to Boston College, which is 21.5 miles away.  Our volunteers set up waters stops at about every 4 miles.  A volunteer monitors the course to make sure you are doing OK.  You run as much or as little of the distance as you feel able to.  Below is a course map of the entire Boston Course.

This year we have five Saturdays in March - so if there is interest, we can do another 20 miler on March 31st.

You Need to Do This!!

As mentioned we will carpool down.  We will have have several cars.  This will allow runners who finish early to leave in cars headed back early.  At least one volunteer will stay until the last runner finishes - so NO ONE should skip the program because they think they are not fast enough.  This program is for everyone!!

This is our 4th year doing this... and we've learned one thing doing it... it is best to get the slower runners on the road first.  Otherwise our water stops get too spread out and we are not able to keep pace with the faster runners.  So as we organize at Hannaford - we want to send the slower runners off in the first cars.  Please help us by being on time and going in the right cars.
