GLRR Hall of Fame Member Dave Camire
Dave was inducted into the GLRR Hall of Fame in 1998
Dave was a part of the first class of inductees to the hall.
As a major part of GLRR
- A club member since inception in 1980
- Served as Club President for one term. Under
his tenure the club membership expanded to 1100 members.
- Served on the Board of Directors for fifteen
years in various capacities
- Founder of the Mill Cities Relay. Remained
Commissioner of the event for 24 years
- Served as the editor of Starting Lines
newsletter for 14 years. Won the Gerry Little Memorial Award from
the RRCA for top middle size club newsletter in the country
- Served as the first head of the GLRR Racing
Team. During his tenure the club won 3 National Cross Country
Championships, 3 overall (top club) New England Grand Prix titles,
won nine out of ten Mill Cities Relays, 12 Boston Marathon team
titles, 6 Mt Washington team titles and over 100 USATF Grand Prix
Championship team titles.
- Recipient of the first GLRR Lifetime
achievement award
- Co-founder and co-director of the first Bay
State Marathon
- Director of the 2-Mile Series (one year)
- Coaching program coordinator for 5 years
- Serve as RRCA New England representative for 5
years
- Wrote a weekly running column in the Lowell
Sun for three years
- However his proudest GLRR accomplish was being
responsible for the slime green uniforms
Dave has been a major contributor to the Sport
of Running in General:
- Co-founder of the popular running website
Coolrunning.com. Currently is senior editor of the site
- President of Yankee Timing Company scoring
over 150 events annually
- Founder of the Good Times Series
- Founder of the Wild Rover Series
- Director of the Frozen Shamrock 3-mile run and
the Rose Maguire Great Mill Girl Chase
- Former head boys and girls track and
cross-country coach at Dracut HS. Selected as Coach of the Year in
1994.
- Current head coach of the Gate City Striders
- Currently newsletter editor for the Winner’s
Circle Running Club
As a runner Dave was a member of Wang Team that won
the National Corporate Cup Nationals in the mid-eighties. He was a
scoring member of four GLRR New England Marathon championship teams and
completed 60 marathon and only 4 were over 3 hours. His marathon PR is
2:36:21.
